Abilene State Park, located 16 miles southwest of Abilene on Elm Creek, offers wooded camping with 35 campsites across multiple loops sheltered by native trees. Accommodations include tent and RV sites, screened shelters, and yurts. Trails wind through the trees and across creeks feeding into Lake Abilene and Buffalo Wallow Pond, where fishing is popular. The park features a historic swimming pool built in the 1930s, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits, and nature viewing opportunities in this creek-bottom setting with abundant wildlife.
