Lake Whitney State Park spans 775 acres along Lake Whitney, created in 1951 when the Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Brazos River to prevent flooding. The landscape features mixed grasslands and woodlands with cedar elm and live oak trees characteristic of the Washita Prairie. Nearly 200 bird species inhabit the park, including bald eagles and herons, alongside white-tailed deer, raccoons, and wild turkeys. Multiple camping loops offer sites with full hookups, electricity, or water only, each with picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby shower facilities. Visitors enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, and a 2.1-mile trail system for hiking and cycling. Boat ramps and fish cleaning stations support lakeside recreation.
