Caprock Canyons Trailway State Park - Clairty Tunnel in TX -- Campground & RV Camping in Texas

The Caprock Canyons Trailway stretches 64 miles across badlands terrain on a historic Fort Worth and Denver South Plains Railway rail corridor (built 1920s, operated until 1989). Clarity Tunnel, a 528-foot railroad tunnel cut through the escarpment, harbors up to half a million Mexican free-tailed bats from late April through October. The trail crosses 46 bridges and spans three Texas counties, open to hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders in segments of 5–12 miles. Primitive camping is available throughout the trailway at $12 per night (maximum four people per site, no fires). The landscape features high plains canyons with honey mesquite, juniper, and yucca, plus Lake Theo for fishing.
