TX State Parks allows overnight stays only at the designated sites here.
The 17,500-acre park sits along the eastern edge of the Llano Estacado, featuring dramatic red-rock canyons and badlands terrain with mesquite, juniper, yucca, and native cacti. Lake Theo, a 120-acre reservoir, offers swimming, fishing for bass and catfish, and no-wake boating. Walk-in tent camping sites are available near the lake with parking access. The park spans 64 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and backpacking through canyon country carved by Quitaque Creek. A notable 528-foot railroad tunnel, now housing Mexican free-tailed bats, crosses the trailway. The Civilian Conservation Corps developed the park infrastructure beginning in 1982.
