Chisos Basin Campground in TX -- Campground & RV Camping in Texas

Chisos Basin Campground sits high in the Chisos Mountains at 5,400 feet, surrounded by steep, rocky cliffs within Big Bend National Park. The facility features 60 small, rugged campsites best suited for tents, each equipped with a picnic table, charcoal grill, and bear-proof food locker, with drinking water, toilets, and a dump station nearby. Highly rated hiking trails depart close to the campground, including the Window, South Rim, Lost Mine, and Pinnacles trails leading toward Emory Peak. A visitor center, general store, and restaurant sit just up the basin road.

Getting there: From Interstate 10, take highway 385 south to Fort Stockton and then on to Marathon. From Marathon, go 40 miles (64 km) south on Highway 385 to the north entrance of Big Bend National Park. Drive straight 26 miles (42 km) to Park Headquarters at Panther Junction. Turn right and drive for three miles (1 km). Turn left at the Basin sign and go seven miles (2.1 km) before making a right into the campground road.
