Setting
Sitting at 2,300 feet in a cove hardwood forest near the Unaka Mountain Wilderness, Rock Creek Recreation Area features 27 accessible single sites, five double sites with electric hookups, and five walk-in tent sites. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the facility features a creek-fed concrete swimming pond, a historic bathhouse with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, a playground, and an amphitheater. Guests enjoy hiking adjacent trails, visiting the nearby Appalachian Trail at Indian Grave Gap, or rafting the Nolichucky River.
Getting there: From I-26 take exit 34 to Main Street (TN107) in Erwin, take TN 395 east for 3.5 miles to Rock Creek Recreation Area.
