Setting
Watauga Point Recreation Area is a day-use park set under large shade trees on the southern shore of 6,400-acre Watauga Lake, at over 1,900 feet elevation. The site overlooks the lake and the Big Laurel Branch Wilderness Area. Amenities include a paved/gravel loop trail through the woods, an electrified picnic pavilion with six tables and two large grills, a shaded picnic area with five tables and two grills, additional pedestal grills, and accessible flush toilets. The property offers direct shore access for picnicking and sunbathing.
Getting there: From Elizabethton, take US 19E/321 south for five miles to Hampton. Turn left on US 321/TN 67 south for six miles, then turn left into Watauga Point.
