Setting
Anthony Creek Horse Camp sits at 1,800 feet elevation along Anthony Creek in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Camping requires bringing a horse. The primitive facility has no hookups or showers; stock water is taken from the stream, and potable spigots are a half-mile away. The Anthony Creek Trail originates at the camp, connecting to Bote Mountain and the Appalachian Trail. The Cades Cove 11-mile loop road and historic log buildings sit nearby, with Townsend nine miles away.
Getting there: From Maryville, TN: Take U.S. 321 North (you'll actually be driving south!) from Maryville to Townsend, TN (about 22 miles).
