Setting
Parksville Recreation Area is a heavily wooded day-use park on the shores of J. Strom Thurmond Lake in McCormick County. Set in a pine and hardwood forest at 335 feet elevation, the facility offers two group picnic shelters—one with electric hookups near the water for 90 people, and a hillside shelter for 36 people. On-site amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, a boat ramp, dock, playground, and an open grassy field. The 70,000-acre reservoir supports boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish.
