Setting
Champoeg State Heritage Area occupies the south bank of the Willamette River in Marion County, preserving a historic settlement site where Oregon's provisional government was established in 1843. The park offers year-round camping in tents, yurts, cabins, and RV sites, plus hiking, disc golf, biking, bird watching, picnicking, fishing, and boating. Restored structures include the Newell House Museum (1852), Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin, and the Butteville Store (1863), Oregon's oldest continuously operating store.
