U.S. Forest Service allows overnight stays only at the designated sites here.

Trout Creek Campground sits in a dense forest of Douglas fir, hemlock, maple, and moss-covered alder along the South Santiam River. The single loop contains 24 well-shaded sites, including four RV pull-throughs, paved roads, gravel spurs, three vault toilets, and a hand-pump well. A 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps picnic shelter with a fireplace and grill provides central river access. Outdoor activities include river wading, trout fishing, and hiking on the adjacent 2.8-mile Trout Creek Trail, which enters the Menagerie Wilderness, or the nearby Walton Ranch viewing trail.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Overhead clearance here is posted at 25 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Echo Mountain stands 1,700 ft above the site, 1.7 miles northwest. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.5 miles off, a 25-site campground. 18 sit on the water -- most of them shaded. Echo Creek runs 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Sisters, is 27 mi off.

September normals 4469°F, 3.4″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
