Hager Mountain Lookout sits on a volcanic rock cap at 7,195 feet in southern Oregon, operating as a staffed fire tower in summer and a winter rental from November to May. Accessible only by a strenuous 4-mile snowshoe or ski climb, the 14x14-foot cabin sleeps four and contains three beds with mattresses, a countertop, a propane stove, and a woodstove with firewood provided. Outside sits a picnic table and pit toilet. There is no water on site. The summit offers 360-degree views stretching toward Mount Hood and Mount Shasta.

Road difficulty 4 of 5 -- a difficult drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 30%, 100% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Private here -- the nearest through road is 1.6 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- 1 hike-in site. Hager Spring lies 0.7 mi off. The nearest town, La Pine, is 52 mi off.

September normals 3366°F, 0.6″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
