Setting
McKee Bridge Community Kitchen is a reservable day-use picnic shelter located at 1,600 feet elevation along the Applegate River in Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the timber shelter features stone masonry and a large fireplace. The site provides open-air access to river swimming and fishing, but does not grant exclusive access to the adjacent historical covered bridge or day-use grounds. Nearby trails include the Mule Mountain Trail, and Applegate Lake sits further north for boating and hiking.
Getting there: From Jacksonville, OR, travel 8 miles south on Highway 238 to the community of Ruch, OR. From Ruch, OR, turn left on to Upper Applegate Road (County Road 859). Continue south approximately 8 miles to McKee Bridge Day Use Area, entrance is on the left.
