Setting
Prairie Campground is a primitive facility set in the tree-shaded foliage of Deschutes National Forest near Paulina Creek. Built to accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents, the site operates without electric or water hookups. Each campsite features a picnic table and fire pit, with vault toilets available on site. Nearby attractions within Newberry National Volcanic Monument include Paulina Lake and East Lake for boating and fishing, the Crater Rim Trail, the 8.5-mile Peter Skene Ogden National Recreation Trail along Paulina Creek, and the 5,211-foot Lava River Cave lava tube.
Getting there: From Bend, OR: Travel about 23.5 miles south on Highway 97 then 3 miles east on County Road 21 (Paulina Lake Road) to the Prairie campground sign. Follow the short paved road to the campground entrance. From LaPine, OR: Travel about 6.8 miles north on Highway 97 then 3 miles east on County Road 21 (Paulina Lake Road) to the Prairie campground sign. Follow the short paved road to the campground entrance.
