Quail Prairie Lookout is a single-room cabin elevated atop a 41-foot timber tower surrounded by an outdoor catwalk. The interior is equipped with a single bed, table, chairs, wood stove, propane cooking stove, and a propane refrigerator. A vault toilet is located at the base of the tower. There is no electricity or water on site, but firewood is provided. The lookout sits near the Chetco River and the Upper Chetco Trail, which leads into the Kalmiopsis Wilderness for steep backpacking and seasonal fishing for trout, steelhead, and salmon.

Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, gravel, pitching to 20%, 100% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Quail Prairie Mountain stands 538 ft above the site, 0.4 miles north. Private here -- the nearest through road is 2.0 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Harbor, is 17 mi off.

September normals 5379°F, 2.1″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
