Cape Blanco State Park occupies a dramatic 1,880-acre headland 4 miles north of Port Orford. The cape rises roughly 200 feet as a relatively level plateau of uplifted marine sediments, with steep cliffs dropping to rocky reefs and beaches below. On site: camping, picnic areas, hiking trails, horseback riding, and fishing. Historic structures include the Cape Blanco Light (first lit in 1870) and the Hughes House (an 1898 ranch house on the National Register), along with a pioneer cemetery. Beachcombing and coastal exploration draw approximately 350,000 day-use visitors and 35,000 overnight visitors annually.
