Setting
Walton Lake Campground wraps around a spring-fed mountain lake set among old-growth ponderosa pines, aspens, and meadows. The paved facilities include single sites with picnic tables and fire rings, two group RV sites, vault toilets, and a solar-powered drinking water pump. The south loop accommodates larger RVs and accessible sites, while the north loop suits cars and tents. On-site features include a swimming beach, fishing pier, and small-boat ramp stocked with rainbow trout, with the 1-mile Walton Lake loop trail and 7.5-mile Round Mountain Trail running nearby.
Getting there: From Prineville, Oregon, take Highway 26 east for 16 miles. Turn right at the junction to Walton Lake and Big Summit Prairie (County Road 23) and travel 9 miles to Forest Service Road 22. Turn left and proceed approximately 7 miles to Walton Lake. The campground will be on the left.
