Perched at 3,630 feet in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Bald Knob Lookout is a 16-by-16-foot flat-top cabin built in 1963 on a historic 1931 site. It overlooks Eden Valley and the Rogue River. The remote structure offers minimal furnishings: a single bed, a small table, and chairs. Outside sits a picnic table, campfire ring, space for one small tent, and a vault toilet 100 feet away. There is no drinking water, lighting, heat, or stove inside. Guests have direct access to the Panther Ridge Trail into the Wild Rogue Wilderness, and the Coquille River Falls Trail is nearby.
Road difficulty 4 of 5 -- a difficult drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, gravel, pitching to 18%, 90% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
