Setting
Hawthorn Bluff is situated on the shores of the 30,000-acre Oologah Lake along the Verdigris River, less than 30 miles from Tulsa. Surrounded by post oak and blackjack oak forests, the campground features electric campsites, flush and pit toilets, showers, a dump station, a playground, an interpretive nature trail, and a boat ramp. Facilities also include two group shelters and an amphitheater with a gazebo. Sailing, boating, and fishing for bass and catfish are primary draws, with the 13,000-acre Oologah Wildlife Management Area and the historic Will Rogers birthplace nearby.
Getting there: From Tulsa, Oklahoma, take U.S. Highway 169 north for 27 miles to Highway 88. The campground is 2 miles east of the town of Oologah on Highway 88.
