Setting
Bird Creek Recreation Area sits at 8,200 feet in the Schell Creek Range, 25 miles from Ely. Bird Creek flows through the campground, which is shaded by juniper, pinyon pine, and alder. The site offers 10 camping options, including single, double, multi-family, and a day-use group site. Select sites require walking across footbridges over the creek. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, grills, seasonal drinking water, and vault toilets. The designated Ranger Trail connects directly to the site for off-road driving, mountain biking, and hiking.
Getting there: From Ely, travel north on Highway 93 to the town of McGill. From McGill, go north 3 miles on Highway 93, to the Duck Creek Basin turnoff. Proceed east on Duck Creek Basin Road and turn left at the sign for Bird Creek Recreation Area.
