Powerhouse Group Picnic Area sits at an elevation of 6,500 feet at the mouth of Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains, 25 miles from Elko. Surrounded by aspen trees along the banks of Lamoille Creek, this fully accessible day-use site includes a large shelter covering picnic tables, two grills, and a campfire circle with benches, backed by parking for up to 30 vehicles and accessible vault toilets. Visitors use the site for group gatherings, trout fishing in the creek, road biking along Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway, and hiking local trails into alpine lake country. Drinking water is not provided.
Getting there: Take Interstate 80 to any Elko exit. Head south on Idaho Street, then turn south on 12th Street (from the east) or 5th Street (from the west), to State Route 227. Travel 25 miles on State Route 227 to Forest Road 660 (Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway). Travel a short distance on Forest Route 660 to the picnic area.
