Setting

Little privacy

Hilltop Campground sits high in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, featuring sweeping views of the Mojave Desert. Surrounded by juniper, mountain mahogany, and ponderosa pine, the facility offers paved roads and single and double sites with picnic tables, campfire rings, and grills. Vault toilets and trash collection are on site. Due to narrow roads and tight turns, trailers longer than 25 feet are not recommended. The North Loop-Mt. Charleston Trailhead is located a quarter-mile away, offering direct access to higher-elevation desert hiking.

Getting there: From Las Vegas, travel north on Highway 95 to the junction with State Route 157/Kyle Canyon Road. Turn left and travel approximately 17 miles to the junction with State Route 158/Deer Creek Highway. Turn right and travel approximately 4 miles to the campground.

  • Little separation from through roads or other sites here, a 38-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
  • Flat ground is scarce: under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
  • Mummy Mountain stands 3,163 ft above the map pin, 2.5 miles west.
  • Estimated night sky: Bortle 4, a rural sky with a glow on the horizon.
