Setting
Foxtail Group Picnic Area is a day-use facility set among towering ponderosa pines in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. During summer, the site offers seven group picnic areas outfitted with picnic and serving tables, grills, and campfire circles, with pavilions and stone fireplaces at the two largest sites. Flush toilets and drinking water are available on site. In winter, when snow depth reaches 12 inches, the location transitions into a pay-per-vehicle sledding and tubing area with accessible fire rings and restrooms. Hiking trails like the 6.2-mile Bristlecone Trail start a short drive away.
Getting there: From Las Vegas, Nevada, take Highway 95 north to the junction with Highway 156/Lee Canyon, turn left and travel approximately 19 miles to the picnic area, which is on the left.
