16.7 of the 67.9 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly gravel, with 16.2 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~140 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 35 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. Water crossings 8.1 and 9.3 miles in.
Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off. The Fenton Lake shoreline is 0.5 mi off. Travellers have camped along here. Redondo Peak stands 3,553 ft above the site, 9.0 miles east. The nearest town, Jemez Pueblo, is 20 mi off.
