Setting
Upper Fir Group Area sits 9,000 feet above sea level in the Sacramento Mountains within Lincoln National Forest, one mile from Cloudcroft. Set back from main roads among pine, fir, aspen, and oak trees, the facility accommodates up to 120 people and includes drinking water on site. An open meadow for sports connects to the campground, and the site connects to Lower Fir Group for additional capacity. The multi-use Rim Trail is located a short distance away, while White Sands National Monument sits to the west.
Getting there: From Alamogordo, take US 82 east 17 miles through Cloudcroft. Turn left onto NM 244 towards Ruidoso and go 1/2 mile. Upper Fir Group Area is on Forest Road 422 at the end of the road.
