Lower Fir Group Area sits at 9,000 feet elevation within Lincoln National Forest, a short mile from the village of Cloudcroft. Surrounded by aspen, pine, fir, and oak trees, the site features dramatic views of the Tularosa Basin and includes an open grassy meadow for group activities. Built to hold up to 70 campers, it connects to Upper Fir Group to accommodate larger gatherings. Drinking water is available on site. The nearby Rim Trail provides access for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, while White Sands National Monument is an easy day trip.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.5 miles off, a single-site campground. A group campground. Night skies measure Bortle 2 -- true dark-sky territory. The nearest town, High Rolls, is 6.3 mi off.
