20.9 of the 60 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly gravel, with 21.7 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~120 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 57 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. Cattle guards 6, 9.3, 9.7, 11.7, 12.9, 16.6, 25.4, 29, 33.3, 51.1, 53.2, 58.3, 68.3, 71, 72.9 and 80.7 miles in. Water crossings 8.7, 10, 11.5, 12.8, 14.8, 16.7, 29, 29.3, 36.1, 40.6, 40.7, 48.6, 49.1, 50.4, 50.9, 54.1, 54.2, 59.7, 68.2, 71.7, 73.2 and 76 miles in. Gates 18.1, 20.7, 20.8, 21.3, 21.3 and 29 miles in.
A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off. Horse Trap Spring lies 0.5 mi off. Black Mountain stands 2,867 ft above the site, 7.3 miles northwest. The nearest town, Little Walnut Village, is 34 mi off.
