Setting
Located along the Swift River in White Mountain National Forest, this rustic single-story cabin sits among pine and hardwood trees off the Kancamagus Scenic Byway. The interior offers ten wooden bunks across three rooms, a wood stove, table, chairs, and a couch. Outside, the facility includes a campfire ring, wheelchair ramp, and an accessible pit toilet. There is no electricity or running water on site. The Downes Brook trailhead is a quarter-mile away, connecting to the 4.8-mile UNH Trail loop up Mount Hedgehog, while the adjacent river provides brook trout fishing.
Getting there: From NH Route 16 in Conway, take NH route 112 (Kancamagus Highway) west for 14 miles. The cabin is on the right, a quarter mile before Passaconaway Campground. From Interstate route 93 in Lincoln, take exit 32 for NH Route 112. At bottom of exit ramp, turn left (east) onto NH route 112. The cabin is approximately 20 miles on the left, a quarter mile after Passaconaway Campground.
