This site offers primitive dispersed backcountry camping directly on the ocean beach of a 20-mile barrier island, accessible only by ferry. There are no designated campsites, paved roads, or built facilities on the island. Camping takes place on the open sand beach, and vehicle access is restricted to driving on the soft sand of the beach and the sand trail behind the dunes. Both tent camping and vehicle camping are permitted.
Getting there: Take a ferry from Atlantic, NC over to Long Point on South Core Banks. The barrier islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore may only be reached by boat -- either your own boat or a ferry from the mainland.
