Setting
High Rye Cabin is a two-room log structure built by the Civilian Conservation Corps around 1919 in the German Gulch mining district. Situated in the northern Fleecer Mountains, the cabin sleeps four guests on bunk beds and includes a table, chairs, wood-heating stove with a flat cooktop, basic cookware, and an outdoor vault toilet. A horse corral is located on site. There is no electricity or drinking water. Nearby forest trails support hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle use.
Getting there: From Butte, travel west on Interstate 90 for about 12 miles, to exit 211. Continue about 3 miles south on Highway 441. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 82 and travel 4 miles south to the cabin. Maps may be purchased by calling the Butte Ranger District.
