Sitting on a rocky peak at 5,772 feet in Kootenai National Forest, this 14x14 lookout cabin has windows on all sides and a wraparound catwalk. The shelter sleeps four with two twin beds and mattresses, a table, chairs, bench, and a wood stove with provided firewood. Outside, the site offers an outdoor vault toilet and campfire ring. The cabin lacks electricity, running water, and cooking appliances; guests must bring drinking water, a camp stove, cookware, bedding, and trash bags. Nearby old logging roads provide paths for hiking and mountain biking.
Road difficulty 4 of 5 -- a difficult drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 12%, 100% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Private here -- the nearest through road is 1.5 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Thompson Falls, is 16 mi off.
