An 18.6-mile stretch of dirt National Forest road in Missoula County, MT. The road is open seasonally, April 1 to November 30.
All 18.6 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Dirt the whole way in (18.6 miles). Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~130 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 10 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch. A gate 5.4 miles in.
Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off. Pilot Knob stands 2,272 ft above the site, 4.8 miles southwest. Travellers have camped along here. The nearest town, Lolo, is 22 mi off.
