Thompson Peak Lookout sits on the third floor of a concrete-block radio tower overlooking the Clark Fork Valley in the Lolo National Forest. The one-room rental cabin sleeps up to four people with one twin bed mattress pad provided, and features enclosed stairways, electricity, an electric stove, a microwave, a small refrigerator, an electric heater, and basic cooking utensils. An outhouse with a vault toilet is located on the property. No drinking water is supplied on-site. Local trails wind through the surrounding forest, offering opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Cabins and shelters rather than pads. Deer Lick Creek runs 1.0 mi off. Night skies measure Bortle 2 -- true dark-sky territory. Mount Baldy stands 2,331 ft above the site, 6.0 miles west. The nearest town, Plains, is 20 mi off.
