Hells Canyon Guard Station is a single-room log cabin built in 1906, set along Hells Canyon Creek in a grassy sagebrush meadow in the Highland Mountains. The cabin sleeps four on bunk beds and includes a wood stove, indoor table and chairs, cookware, a porch propane cooktop, and an outdoor vault toilet. Potable water is available on site during summer months, but there is no electricity. The surrounding area offers fishing, off-road vehicle routes, and direct access to mountain trails.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Grassy Mountain stands 2,060 ft above the site, 2.0 miles west. East Fork Hell Creek runs 0.2 mi off. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Butte-Silver Bow (balance), is 18 mi off.

September normals 4065°F, 1.5″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
