Setting

Some privacy

Schnaus Cabin is a vehicle-accessible structure located seven miles north of Polebridge in the Whitefish Mountains, near the North Fork Flathead River. Set at 3,700 feet in a meadow with scattered pines, the cabin sleeps up to 12 people using double and bunk beds on the main floor plus twin beds in the loft. Amenities include a propane cook stove, heater, propane lights, wood stove, and an accessible vault toilet outside. The site has no electricity or drinking water, requiring guests to pack in all water and supplies.

Getting there: From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue and turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign. This becomes North Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass. Continue north on this gravel road for 42 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 10372 and look for the sign for Schnaus Cabin. Go east for less than a half-mile and turn north at the sign for Schnaus Cabin. The majority of the road from Columbia Falls to Scnaus Cabin is gravel, so be prepared for dust during your drive and at the cabin.
