Why
U.S. Forest Service opens most of its land to dispersed camping unless a local order restricts it. Check the unit's current orders before you commit.4.9 of the 16.9 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, mostly gravel with 5 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~150 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 4 switchbacks. Dead-end road with no mapped turnaround, so expect to back out or unhitch.
Stony Hill stands 3,464 ft above the site, 2.6 miles southwest. South Fork Flathead River runs 0.2 mi off.
Flathead National Forest, Spotted Bear Ranger District: Dispersed camping is free, and permitted almost everywhere on the Flathead National Forest.…Dispersed camping is NOT allowed near developed recreation areas including campgrounds, trailheads and day-use areas.
