Built in 2001 near Chief Joseph Pass, Gordon Reese Cabin sits in an evergreen forest along the Lewis and Clark Trail and Continental Divide Trail. The structure sleeps eight in a loft with two double beds and four twin beds. The ground floor features a propane cooktop, wood stove, propane lights, sink for wastewater, cookware, tables, and benches, with an outdoor vault toilet nearby. Water is not available on site. The cabin functions as a public warming hut during the day while providing access to 32 kilometers of cross-country ski and hiking trails.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad.
Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- 1 hike-in site. Lewis and Clark Ridge stands 903 ft above the site, 1.9 miles west. The nearest town, Salmon, is 36 mi off.
