Setting
Outlet Channel Day Use Area is located along Arkabutla Lake and Dam on the Coldwater River, set among forested rolling hills of oak, hickory, beech, sweet gum, and birch. The site features a tent camping area with individual picnic sites, a group shelter, a playground, and fishing access along the outlet channel. Hikers can access the Coldwater River Nature Trail System and the Swinging Bridge Nature Trail directly from the grounds. Surrounding public wildlife management areas offer 30,000 acres for hunting, while the lake supports bass, crappie, bream, and catfish fishing.
Getting there: The Outlet Channel Recreation area is located just off Scenic Loop 304 on the bottom side of Arkabutla Dam.
