Setting
Hernando Point Recreation Area sits along Arkabutla Lake in the forested rolling hills of northwest Mississippi, heavily canopying oak, hickory, beech, sweet gum, and birch trees. The year-round campground features 83 full-hookup sites, flush toilets, showers, drinking water, multiple playgrounds, a day-use pavilion, and a small fishing pond with an accessible pier. Lowered lake levels have temporarily closed the main boat ramp, but the nearby Area 51 trails at Hwy. 51 Landing provide lake trail access and an operational ramp. The 30,000-acre surrounding wildlife areas draw hunters and wildlife watchers.
