Pinewoods Lake Recreation Area sits in a densely wooded section of the Mark Twain National Forest, 3 miles from Ellsinore. Centered around a 32-acre lake, the site features a day-use picnic shelter that holds up to 75 people, equipped with tables and large grills. Accessible vault toilets are provided on site, but visitors must pack out their own garbage. A 1.3-mile flat, concrete walking trail circles the shoreline. Anglers and boaters have access to a floating fishing pier and a concrete boat ramp to fish for bass, sunfish, and catfish.
Getting there: From Poplar Bluff, Missouri, go 7 miles north on U.S. Highway 67, then travel 16 miles east on U.S. Highway 60.
