Setting
Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, Jeanette Lake Campground occupies a wooded peninsula of mixed hardwoods, spruce, and pine on the 638-acre glacier-carved Lake Jeanette. The single-loop layout offers 12 campsites—including standard drive-in RV sites, close-together tent sites, and secluded walk-in tent sites with a dedicated latrine. Six primitive backcountry sites on the lake are accessible only by water. On-site facilities include access to the Astrid Lake Hiking Trail and a water launch for canoes and kayaks to fish for walleye, pike, and perch.
Getting there: From Orr, Minnesota, take St. Louis County Road 23 for 16 miles to Buyck. At Buyck, County Road 23 turns into County Road 24. Continue on County Road 24 for 8 miles to the Echo Trail. Turn right onto the Echo Trail and continue 12 miles to Jeannette Lake Campground.
