This Lake Superior park features dramatic 130-foot basalt cliffs, ten waterfalls along the Split Rock River, and eroded sea caves. Mixed birch and conifer forest holds moose, black bears, bobcats, lynx, white-tailed deer, nesting bald eagles, and peregrine falcons. The iconic Split Rock Lighthouse crowns a prominent headland. Camping includes 20 secluded cart-in campsites and four backpack sites, some accessible to sea kayakers. Fourteen miles of trails support hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing; the Superior Hiking Trail passes through. Lake trout and salmon fishing, sea kayaking, and scuba diving to a historic shipwreck add water recreation options.
