Setting
Winnie Dam Campground sits in a forest of red pines and hardwoods near the outlet of Lake Winnibigoshish and steps from the Mississippi River. The site features 22 campsites equipped with 30/50-amp electric and water hookups. Amenities include flush and pit toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, a picnic shelter, a playground, and an on-site boat ramp accessing the river. A primary boat launch for the 67,000-acre main lake sits one mile northeast down Plug Hat Road.
Getting there: From Deer River, Minnesota, take Highway 2 west for one mile. Turn right on Highway 46 and go 12 miles. Turn left on Itasca County 9 and continue 2 miles, then turn left at signs and follow to the campground.
