Campground details
Setting
Situated on a heavily wooded peninsula in the Superior National Forest, Crescent Lake Campground puts campers among white pine, spruce, birch, and aspen. The facility offers 32 sites—including a boat-in backcountry spot—equipped with picnic tables, fire grates, water pumps, and vault toilets. A boat ramp on the lake's northwest side and an on-site fishing pier provide access to waters populated by walleye, northern pike, and muskie. The surrounding forest connects to the nearby Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Getting there: Travel Highway 61 along Lake Superior's north shore to Tofte, Minnesota. In Tofte, turn north (away from Lake Superior) on Sawbill Trail (CCHS 2). Follow the Sawbill Trail for 16 miles to The Grade (Forest Road 170). Turn right onto the The Grade and proceed east for 7 miles. The campground is on your right and is marked by a large sign.
- Limited separation from through roads or other sites here, a 34-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
- 6 hike-in sites, with 6 on the water and most of them shaded.
