Setting
Norway Beach Picnic Shelter sits on the southern shore of 16,000-acre Cass Lake in the Chippewa National Forest. Set at the edge of a red and white pine forest, the site features a white sand beach and a large log shelter built for up to 100 people. On-site facilities include electric outlets, picnic tables, a grill, flush toilets, outdoor showers, and drinking water. A boat ramp is nearby for fishing walleye and pike, and local trails include the Migizi Bike Trail and Norway Beach Trail. The Civilian Conservation Corps-built Norway Beach Visitor Center is also nearby.
Getting there: From Cass Lake, Minnesota, take U.S. Highway 2 east for 4 miles to the Norway Beach Recreation Area. Turn left and follow the campground road approximately 1/4 miles to a sign indicating a left turn to the Norway Beach Picnic Shelter.
