Setting
Minerva Lake offers a single rustic campsite set in a small, semi-open clearing surrounded by hardwoods and hemlocks in the Hiawatha National Forest. The 40-by-30-foot footprint fits up to eight people in tents or small trailers due to tight turnaround space. An adjacent day-use boat launch has a gravel base suitable for backing in small boats to fish the 45-acre lake for largemouth bass and perch. The site has no drinking water, primitive toilets, or quality swimming areas. General supplies and fuel sit three miles south on County Road 437.
Getting there: From Cooks (about 12 miles west of Manistique or 24 miles east of Rapid River on US-2): drive north 4.4 miles on County Road 442 to CR 437. Turn left (north) on CR 437 and drive 14.4 miles to FR 2767. Turn right (east) and drive 0.25 mile to the campsite. The access road crosses a short, steep hill and is narrow, but still capable of handling moderate sized vehicles.
- Moderately separated here.
- The Minerva Lake shoreline is 0.1 mi off.
- Open country, with nothing named rising within 30 miles.
- One on the water, with most of them shaded.
