South Manitou Group Campground in MI -- Campground & RV Camping in Michigan

South Manitou Group Campground is a tent-only backcountry facility on South Manitou Island in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, accessible only by boat or ferry trip followed by a backpack hike. The facility includes six group sites split between Bay Campground, located near the dock and beach, and Weather Station Campground on the southern bluffs. Sites are set in young forests on sandy soils, surrounded by old-growth cedar groves and pebble beaches. On-site amenities include fire pits and wooden pit toilets. Drinking water is available only in the island's village area.

Getting there: From Traverse City, Michigan, take M-22 to Sutton's Bay. Go west on M-204 from Sutton's Bay towards Leland. Turn north at the junction of M-22 and M-204 to Leland. Take the Manitou Island Transit ferry from Leland to South Manitou Island.
