White Pine Backcountry Campground Permits in MI -- Campground & RV Camping in Michigan

White Pine Backcountry Campground is a primitive wilderness site in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, located two miles from the Trail's End Road trailhead along the Platte Plains hiking trail. The year-round facility offers six walk-in campsites, two shared fire rings, two shared animal-resistant food lockers, and a pit toilet. There is no water well or trash service on site, requiring campers to haul in water and pack out garbage. The campground sits half a mile from the Lake Michigan shoreline amidst hardwood forests and coastal dunes.

Getting there: FROM THE EAST (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22.
