Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backcountry Camping consists of 14 primitive campgrounds with 72 total designated sites distributed every 2 to 5 miles along the Lakeshore Trail on Lake Superior. Accessible only by hiking or kayaking, these remote sites feature food storage boxes for wildlife protection and numbered post markers. There is no drinking water, trash collection, electricity, or hookups; campers must treat natural water sources and pack out all garbage. Vault toilets are available where the trail meets frontcountry areas.
