Camp Misty Mount in MD -- Campground & RV Camping in Maryland

Built in 1937 by the WPA and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Camp Misty Mount sits on the hardwood slopes of Catoctin Mountain Park. The camp offers rustic American chestnut cabins sleeping three to eight people, equipped with cots, interior lights, picnic tables, and fire rings. Central comfort stations provide hot showers, flush toilets, sinks, dishwashing stations, and a seasonal swimming pool open May through September. The site connects directly to the park's 25-mile trail network via the Wolf Rock Trail, with Cunningham Falls nearby.

Getting there: The street address for GPS use is 14799 Park Central Road, Thurmont, MD.From Washington DC: take the George Washington Memorial Parkway north to I-495 onto I-270 north 27 miles (43.5 km) to Frederick, MD. Take Route 15 for 17 miles (27 km) north to Thurmont, MD. Take Route 77 West, the exit sign is marked Catoctin Mountain Park. Travel approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) west on Route 77 and turn right onto Park Central Road. Pass the Visitor Center and continue 7/10 of a mile (1 km) and turn left into Camp Misty Mount.From Gettysburg, PA: take Route 15 South. In Thurmont, MD, exit onto Route 77 West (the exit sign says Catoctin Mountain Park). Travel approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) west on Route 77 and turn right onto Park Central Road. Pass the Visitor Center and continue 7/10 of a mile (1 km) and turn left into Camp Misty Mount.
